 Hi again!

I suppose I should introduce myself. I am an introvert and sometimes a little awkward in social situations so I just jumped in with my first post. My name is Abby and I am a Kindergarten Teacher. I love it. It is so so so hard but so so so much fun! There is nothing like teaching kindergarten. I have taught 1st grade and 2nd grade, and though I enjoy those grades as well, kindergarten has my heart. I've been teaching kindergarten for 6 years now. I'm a total phonics geek and I am passionate about play based learning as well. It's an area I really want to improve in so there may be a lot of posts related to this topic ;)

I am also a wife and mother.  A wife to a teacher actually. That's right, we are a dual teacher household, you may feel sorry for our children now ;).  My husband teaches in the upper grades while I teach primary. I really want to start a podcast with him to share our different perspectives. If you have any ideas of topics we could start with please share! I am a boy mom. I have 3 wonderful boys and I love being a mom of boys.

You'll learn more about me as we go along but I wanted to share the reason I chose the title "S'more to Learn"

 So, why "S'more to Learn"?

First of all, who doesn't love a good s'more? Especially as we begin summer, it is the ultimate summer bonfire treat...am I right?? This title has come from a long standing theme in my classroom. Camping. I have loved camping and the s'more is the ultimate camping treat! Now as I get older, I'm more into "glamping", but in my classroom it's been a camping theme for a long time. I have made it a bit more sophisticated over the years ;) I originally chose a camping theme because I thought it was cute and I had a lot of personal camping stuff I could include as decor. I chose this theme my second year teaching. Throughout the year and especially at the end of the year, I reflected on the relationship between camping and 1st grade (what I was teaching at the time). Think about it for a moment...in camping it is important to know survival skills to keep you alive in the wild. In kindergarten and first grade children are learning academic survival skills. They are learning foundational skills in reading, writing, math, science, SEL, etc. These foundational skills are the building blocks for all other grades! We are teaching children to survive in the wilds of school.

I'm so excited to share with you the adventures in my classroom because there's always s'more to learn!

Welcome to my blog!!

Hi! I'm Abby and this is my first blog post...(eeee so exciting!!) I've always wanted to do this but thought I don't have much to contribute to the world. I'm usually the one checking out other people's blogs, podcasts, facebook groups, etc. Anything and everything that can help me be a better teacher. I follow the old adage of "a good teacher begs, borrows, and steals." I've been very good at this. I know I come up with a few original ideas but mostly I learn from others...and use their stuff (I have an addiction to TPT...shhhh.)  And I love to learn! I mean I really love it. If there was a career where I can just get paid for increasing my knowledge on any and everything, I'd do it. So far, I haven't found one so if you know of a career out there that can help me do that please share!!

I created this blog as a way to provide an outlet to talk about my education adventures. I LOVE talking about education. Thankfully I have a teacher husband and we can have fun discussions about the things we are finding and learning. I'm hoping my ramblings and adventures will help you as well! I hope to share all the things I'm learning and as I try to implement them in my classroom, you will learn from my failures and successes. I'm hopeful you will find something that will inspire you or at least a tip or trick that can improve your classroom as well.

My goal is to post at least once a week but it could be more depending on what I've learned that week that I'm bursting to share with someone...aka YOU :).

Thanks for following along. In my next post I'll share about me and how I came up with the title of this blog because there's always s'more to learn!!
